It was appropriate for Vanessa Traina to have a lushly romantic yet intimate wedding at her mother’s home in San Francisco because after all her mother is Danielle Steel, the iconic queen of romance novels. With four sisters by her side in the matriarch’s grand Pacific Heights home which was re-imagined by event planner Stanlee Gatti, the bride stepped out in custom made Givenchy and a lily-of-the-valley bouquet surrounded by a bevy of family and famous faces who traveled to the golden city for the occasion.
Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci also created Vanessa’s Madonna veil and studded white leather heels in addition to the lace embroidered dress which was inspired by the label’s archived 2012 Haute Couture collection. “When we tried it on her, it fit like a glove. It was pure perfection.”
Guests included a bevy of designers which the stylist counts as friends including Alexander Wang whom she went to high school with, Joseph Altuzarra, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Jack and Lazaro who together make up the label Proenza Schouler (named after their mothers maiden names) have themselves been rumored to be tying the knot soon. Appropriately enough, Lazaro caught the bride's bouquet.
Vanessa and her groom Maxwell Snow’s other well-known friends included Nicole Richie, Kristen Dunst, Ryan Korban and Mya Thurman (Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman's teenage daughter). Interestingly enough the groom’s mother Tya Thurman is Uma Thurman’s older sister with whom they share a father, the prolific American Buddhist writer, Robert Thurman.
The bride chose to follow the European tradition of not having any bridesmaids, instead following her five nieces and nephews down the aisle. Last year, Danielle’s ex-husband whom she divorced in 1994 after 13 years of marriage passed away after battling Leukemia. The late philanthropist, vintner and world-renowned Fabergé collector John Traina a native of San Francisco was missed dearly by his family at his daughter’s wedding. "You'd have to go to Kuwait to find a man with a better entourage of wives and children - they loved him, and he loved them," said Trevor Traina, an Internet entrepreneur who was close to his father. "He was the man who everyone liked. He was a great friend - a calm and elegant person.”
anessa’s youngest brother Maxx took on the task of walking her down the isle. "Not having John present for this happy occasion sort of hit everyone. But Maxx did a great job - it was so meaningful for him to escort his sister," remarked Danielle Steel of the tender moment.
For the ceremony, Stanlee Gatti designed the pergola, which was draped in spanish moss and jasmine
