Couture Shows in Paris. Couture brings to mind hours of handcrafted gowns with 1000’s of beads, beautiful workmanship that results in a single skirt and where designers, editors and celebrities get to show off their faces. The most talked about show so far has been the Dior show. What with all that controversy last year around John Galliano's anti-semitic rants that resulted in a permanent place in the blacklist, everyone has been holding out hope that Dior where he worked at for many years will be able to redeem itself as a French fashion institution.
While he might have played it way too safe last season pulling out pieces from the archives instead of showing new ideas, designer Raf Simmons finally proved why he deserved to take over the reigns at the Maison. Before the show though is where all the good stuff happens. The glam arrivals, somewhat ridiculous outfits and parade of air kisses were swarmed by cameras as everyone stepped out to attend the Dior show.
Notable fashion figures like American Vogue empress Anna Wintour, Vogue Nippon’s Madame Anna Dello Russo and actresses like Isabel Huppert, Charlotte Rampling, Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cottilard who is also the face of Dior’s current campaign also attended the fabulous show.
Muse to Orthodox Jewish women everywhere and a woman that has singlehandedly turned NYC sidewalks into her own personal runway, socialite Olivia Palermo looked great as always in a leather peplum top, navy skirt/short hybrid of some sort (remember the skort?!) and pointy wedge heels. Honestly, anyone that can rock a skort with such ease is a winner in our book.
Sharon Stone made an appearance as well, wrapped rigidly around her oversized sunnies. We are not sure why she refused to take the shades off inside the venue, but that is exactly how she posed for the photogs, dramatically standing at the foot of a staircase. Anna Wintour who sat with her daughter Bee Shaffer made some amusing faces during the show that gave off the air of constipation rather than enjoyment. Not really much of a surprise as she is known for her smirks and animated expressions. It might have had something to with the fact that former French Vogue editor and sometime rival Carine Roitfeld was also at the show. Never a dull moment in fashion, Marc Jacobs continued his skirt wearing style with yet another kilt and a pair of platform black and red leather boots.
