Leelee Sobieski was spotted yesterday in NYC showing some denim on denim love while on a Whole Foods run. We typically try to avoid this look because of it’s close approximation to the dreaded “Canadian Tuxedo”. Leelee was able to take this 80’s throwback trend and make it look super chic by pairing two different washes with some cute flats and a striped tee. Keeping it simple is the key to rocking a double dose of denim.
The skinnies she’s wearing are from Copenhagen-based label, Just Female's high waisted bleached skinny jeans which are very flattering. To complete this look throw in some easy classics like a rich indigo washed denim jacket from The Gap, a cool striped tee from Comme des Garçons and a pair of Loeffler Randall metallic leather sandals. How easy was that?
Another great tip for finding the perfect denim jacket is to hit your local thrift store. There you will many colors and versions of these 80’s castaways for only a few dollars.
As an alternative to skinny jeans you can also opt for wide-leg, or bellbottom jeans, which we spotted on both Lauren Santo Domingo & Meredith Melling Burke. The two stylish New York socialites were each seen during Fashion week in denim tops and bottoms. The look is especially fantastic with light bronzed skin and simple, relaxed hair. Ralph Lauren would agree, we are sure. In case you didn’t know, Ralph along with pretty much everyone in his family are big fans of the Denim on denim look.
If you don’t want to wear the varying shades then we suggest going for a very light, powdery shade. Rihanna and Pippa Middleton have both been seen wearing this look and were definitely able to pull it off.
