Awards & Events- Hollywood’s Glitzy Prom Night At The White House
The 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner was quite a spectacle on Saturday night. Hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, the guest list was full of A-list celebrities, superstar journalists along with a random array of celebrities which don’t fit in either category, Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner for example.
Let’s delve into the random category first shall we? Lindsay Lohan arrived a day late with her signature strawberry locks, a new set of veneers and her lawyer Shawn Chapman Holly. Also on hand was Kate Upton, the infamous 2012 Sport’s Illustrated cover girl wearing a rather demure Alexander McQueen number. Kim Kardashian, reality star and future mayor of Glendale showed up in a green velvet gown with her mom/manager in tow. Supermodel Elle Macpherson had a bad case of Angelina Jolie’s right leg all night. Rosario Dawson displayed her ample “assets” in a super tight low-cut satin gown throwing any concept of what a White house appropriate wardrobe is to the wind.
The night was not all high slits and too much cleavage though. Dakota Fanning looked age appropriate and gorgeous in a pale sequined Prada dress for instance. A number of ladies opted for white like Eva Longoria, Claire Danes, Shanina Shaik and Malin Ackerman. Quirky cute poster girl Zooey Deschanel wore an equally quirky Oscar de la Renta gown while pixie haired Ginnifer Goodwin chose a rather dramatic piece from H&M’s Conscious Collection. Also not to be outshone of the red carpet was Uggie. The dog from this years Oscar winning film, “The Artist”.
As far as best dressed women for the night we have several picks. Sporting a massive shiny bun, we loved seeing Kate Hudson in a fitted and sequined purple Jenny Packham gown. Other well styled ladies included Kerry Washington wearing a salmon colored Calvin Klein collection piece, Charlize Theron in an Emilio Pucci lace overlay dress and Hunger Games star Elizabeth Banks in a vivid red peplum Antonio Berardi gown.
Speaking of well styled, Rachel Zoe chose a beautiful nude colored Valentino dress but broke our little hearts by accessorizing with a giant fur coat. Ditto for Goldie Hawn and her fur stole.
The designer that really had the best night was definitely Naeem Khan though. Not only did Ivanka Trump look drop dead gorgeous in a shimmery gown that was seemingly sewn onto her body but the first lady wore one of his floral creations as well. The colorful outfit, a strapless paisley organza piece was not the first time she has worn one of his designs however. It was a Naeem Khan gold one-of-a-kind gown that she wore to the very first state dinner as well.
On another note, Martha Steward happily danced around the red carpet in an awesomely kitschy Cleopatra-esque dress that had gold fringe hanging off the sleeves with gold pointy kitten heels and white panty hose. Now that’s a good thing.
