Maiyet is named after the Egyptian goddess of truth and harmony. South African human rights lawyer Paul van Zyl and industry vet Kristy Caylor (a transplant from Band of Outsiders) created Maiyet to harness the skill of artisans the world over to produce elements of the line while simultaneously sustaining those artisan communities. The Spring campaign was also shot into a short video that had Daria dancing about to indie artist Feist and looking well, as effortlessly gorgeous as always.
Maiyet which showed their Fall 2012 collection in Paris this month and will be exclusively carried by Barney’s New York as of today. Incidentally Barney’s threw a bash for the label last night at their NYC stores restaurant Fred’s which was also co-hosted by Christina Ricci, random right?
“I was interested in the designs at first,” said Ricci, who is playing Hermia in an off-Broadway production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and was clad in an embroidered pair of silk shorts and a cream-colored jacket by Maiyet. “Then I found out the story behind it, and I think to take beautiful clothing and people’s love of fashion…to turn that sort of greed into something beautiful and world-changing is amazing, and important.” [WWD]
