On Friday, Sofia Coppola, Consuelo Castiglioni and Margareta van den Bosch hosted a dinner party to celebrate the collaboration, for which Coppola directed a video. As promised the much anticipated Marni for H&M collection is chocked full of African-inspired patterns as well as color blocking on pleated skirts, dresses, cropped trousers and jacquard knits, in fabrics ranging from silk to cotton poplin. “I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints.” One look at the collection confirms they were definitely not exaggerating about the bold and opulent collection.
“There are so many clothes you can’t afford, so I think it’s great you are doing this,” Winona Ryder told Castiglioni. Marni’s founder and designer Consuelo Castiglioni said of the collection, “It’s beautiful to be able to speak to a larger public, and in particular to the new generations: As a designer, it gives me new energy.” Marni will be debuting their designs across the world and online in March 8, 2012.
According to H&M’s description of the collection, its certainly not for the fashion faint of heart. "The colors are vivid and the prints are bold, be they African inspired or simpler color blocks." Although we love the whole collection inevitably there are some pieces that we love even more like a fantastic caramel colored leather top with soft grey cotton sleeves. Chunky bright colored bracelets, a sequined peter pan collar and tan/silver flat sandals are also on our shopping list.
