J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons possesses the sort of taste in fashion that is hard to come by for most. Uniquely casual yet stylish, she balances masculine and feminine pieces not only in her own wardrobe but within the J.Crew designs that fly off the shelves on a daily basis.
The first lady Michelle Obama certainly agrees, as she put J.Crew on the map when she wore several pieces to her public appearances. We mostly see Jenna in an array of trousers from printed silk to tweed or cargo pants paired with heels and bright accessories, all of which are obviously J.Crew. Even when she wear a skirt it is in an unexpected shade of lime green and sequined no less. How many women have to guts to wear a lime green sequined skirt?!
The key to her style is mixing unconventional pieces like a denim chino under a belted sequin sweater or skin-tight leather pants with a massive comfy fur rimmed parka. You get the picture.Thick rimmed glasses and red lips were also a signature part of her look long before the trendy hipster crowds chimed in. Jenna Lyons is in effect her own best muse and walking advertisement.
At todays Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2012 show at New York Fashion Week we were delighted to see that Marc had also taken some notes from the JL handbook, quite literally. A good number of models walked out onto the runway with bright lips and glasses resembling Jenna not to mention wearing pieces that would not be out of place in her closet. Check out our comparison below and see for yourself.
